How do you get rid of the white background when pasting with Paint.Net?

I am trying to paste one picture on top of another, but I keep getting that white box around the picture. Is there an easier way of getting rid of it, other than the eraser? How do you get rid of the white background when pasting with Paint.Net?
Use the magic wand to select the background then go to 'EDIT' then ';ERASE SELECTED'. When you copy it - don't just paste it, instead use the option to paste it into a new layer. Once you have it where you want it, you can go to 'LAYERS' - 'MERGE LAYER DOWN'

Hope this helps.

There is a good step by step tutorial for Paint.net here: http://www.thetutorgenie.com

Go to the 'Tutorials' tab then 'Paint.net'
