You don't need a codec for pictures. WMM can import any of the following picture file name extensions:





.bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf





If you need to change a picture to a format used by another photo-editing program simply open the .pdn.





Then under File, click the Save As option. Click the bottom arrow and select: jpeg or .png (used by most people) from the menu





Save the .pdn as a .jpeg and you can use it in windows movie maker

It is called Selective (or partial) desaturation.





1. Duplicate your background layer.


2. Desaturate that layer (i.e. make it b%26amp;w).


3. Apply a layer mask to the layer. Use the black brush to paint on the layer mask (make sure that is where you are, not on the image itself). That will bring the color back to those areas. If you make a mistake, change the brush to white and go over it.


4. When you're happy, flatten and save.





If you don't have any image editors, you can do it for free on www.picnik.com in their effects section.





Here is how to do it on picnik.com:





Upload a photo


Click on the ';Create'; tab


Click on ';Black and white';


In the ';Effect Painting'; box, choose ';Original';


Choose a brush size, then simply paint the color back in where you want it.


If you make a mistake, change it to ';Effect'; and go over the mistake.

This is how I do it with paint.net... and I'm sure there's an easier way but I'm way too lazy to find out. It takes time depending what you want to remain colored. But I use the ';wand'; tool and select everything that I want to be black and white. Then, you apply the black and white to it. And it's done. If you don't have a steady hand like I do, then I'd say to not try it that way. It works best when using a mouse... and not a touchpad on a laptop.
when you have your picture opened on paint.net use the Rectangle Select or Lasso Select and once you have the part of the picture selected that you want to turn Black and White, click Adjustments then click Black and White

MP is typically used for decoupoge and you can find in any craft store.





For paint. net I do not have experience. But you would probably take othre images and superimpos on section of the painting.

Try resetting the Tolerance Tool at top when using the Magic Wand. Actually it is good for removing backgrounds quickly with some clean up with the Eraser tool at a higher zoom.





The Lasso tool may be what you want to use to remove object from within the image. Check the online tutorial on how to do it.

To change directions I press Enter after either each letter or word to get it vertical.

Create a new (empty) layer and move it to the bottom, then delete anything on the top layer you want to be transparent.





Transparent will show as a dark grey/light grey checker grid. Once you're happy with it, flatten the image and save.

Can someone tell me what is good about Paint.net?

I recently downloaded Paint.net and it seems like it's not worth it. It doesn't really photo edit, or at least not for me. Explain why I should or shouldn't keep it and if so, how can I make my edits seem more realistic?Can someone tell me what is good about Paint.net?
well one advantage of paint.net is that its free and if you mess around a bit you can find that there is a lot more you can do so try and experiment but if that doesn't suit you try GIMP which is also free and you can get from http://www.gimp.org/ but i think GIMP is too complicated

It all depends on the skill and technique of the user who is wielding the program. You can have Photoshop and still suck at making stuff if you don't know how to do different things. There are so many things to learn that it might get confusing. Paint.NET can achieve most of things that Photoshop can, but it takes a little more time/thinking in terms of process in making it. For example, I've converted a few Photoshop tuts into Paint.NET. If you don't understand what I mean, check out my deviantART page and compare the quality of my older works to the more current ones.





In conclusion; it just takes a lot of time and experimenting with the program to make cool stuff. Experience makes all the difference, even if its Photoshop your using.Is photoshop better then paint.net for coloring drawings?

Unfortunately, paint.NET hasn't got ( as of now ) blending on brushes. That means if you cut the body you will be left with jagged edges between the head and the new body. They make the picture look extremely bad and cannot be removed using paint.NET's tools.





Wait for a better version or use GIMP. It is as free as paint.NET, and has many more features.

Use the Magic Tool along with the Tolerance tool to remove the background. Do any Ctrl + to enlarge image to make sure all background you want removed is gone. Use Eraser and Size tools if need be to get the stuff you missed.





Go to Layers and add a new layer. Select color you want for background color. Use paint Bucket tool and paint color onto entire layer. Click the Layer Palette and send Layer to back. Doublecheck for any remnants of old background you may have missed.





That's a quick synopsis. probably left out something, but you should get the idea.

You can't use an image editor to code HTML...





You can use an image editor to produce a web design... that is, a rough-up of what the final website will look like, including the graphics which will go on the website. But to actually get the HTML written, you must do that in a different program like Notepad, another text editor or a WYSIWYG web editor like Adobe Dreamweaver.

You are saying that when you open a file in which red-eye exists and when you click on Effects/Red Eye Removal it does not remove the problem. Have you tried using the various options like tolerance and saturation percentage?

If it is a PNG file, save it rather then copying it. If not, then use the magic wand tool in paint.NET.





Then, click on the white background, and it should select all of it. Then you can delete it and you are left with just the image, no background.

Open both pictures and also open a blank canvas. Use the rectangle tool to select the first image, copy and paste on blank canvas. Do the same thing for the 2nd image and copy /paste it on the blank canvas. You may have to do a little moving around with the 2nd image to position it the way you like. Hope this is what you were trying to do.

If you do good work, it doesn't matter what software you are using. Talent speaks louder than the medium.





And you can probably get away with using those softwares if you are working freelance. But note that Adobe products are industry standard. GIMP, no. Paint, I don't know, and I've never heard of Inkscape.
If it looks professional, then go right ahead ! Personally, I think that Gimp has good enough graphics, but just be very careful about which ones you use. I've never used neither of the other two. But if their like Gimp then go ahead.
I believe that it's not the medium you use that is so important it's what you do with it! From what I've seen of GIMP, it seems a really good program. And if you master it or know alot about it... Why not?!

The simplest method is to do the following:





Use the selection tools to select everything that you want to be Black and White. You can select small portions of an image at a time and add those selections together by holding down the ';ctrl'; key as you do it.





Then, simply click Layers -%26gt; Adjustment -%26gt; Black and White





Sometimes however, it is easier to select everything that you want in color. You can do the same as above, but before you adjust it to black and white, click on Edit -%26gt; Invert Selection. This will select everything except what you currently have selected.

Its simple with photoshop...with photoshop...you have your original image as layer 1, then copy that layer, and change layer 2 to black and white, or desaturate..which ever works best for you. After you have changed the layer to black and white, you should now have a b/W layer, and a Color layer.





Select your BW layer, and erase where you want the color to show through. I have attached a sample of one of my recent pics. Take it easy

I don't know anything about paint.net in particular, but most paint programs have the same tools, so I'll answer the question for gimp which you can download for free from www.gimp.org.





You will need to zoom in on the detail you want. Use the gaussian scissors and click around the object you want select. If you go too big, it will get confused, but if you keep the lengths of the individual cuts small, it will correctly follow the line around the object you want to re-color. Once you've closed the loop, you will be able to use the paint tool to fill with whatever color you please.I use paint.net. How do you make certain colors stand out more than others?
If you can use the color wheel or choose any color on some type of palette, choose a color that's further most from black. You have to use more primary colors than mixed colors. For example, if you use pure yellow, red, or blue, it's going to stand out better than secondary colors like orange, green, or purple. If you use other colors than primary or secondary, it would have less impact or less saturation..
When I use Paint.net, I first make a duplicate layer. I use the lasso tool and draw around the eyes. Then I cut the eyes out. I then make the top layer black and white and the green eyes should shine through. You can then just merge the layers together. I downloaded some plugins at the paint.net forum and it has some color enhancer tools that you can just slide back and forth on certain colors. (sorry if this is confusing) I have also found that a lot of the same things you can do with Photoshop you can do with Paint.net. I google photoshop tips and get ideas that way. Hope this helps!

On paint.net, there are a couple of ways to do this.





1. Use the magic wand to select all the lines. You may have to hold ctrl and repeat the selection if you don't get them selected all at once. Right click to deselect. Once you have all the line work you want to save, copy them and in the edit menu select ';paste in a new layer';. Now you can paint on either a blank layer, or paint over the other layer that has linework.





2. You can also use the magic wand to select the space around the lines, go to edit and choose ';invert selection';. Now your line work will be selected. Do a copy and paste in a new layer as above.





When you paint on a new layer, you usually will have to change the layer opacity (in the properties window) that is on a top layer to see the layers beneath. Experiment with this as well as the type of blend. I usually try them all to see which one works best for special effects. Color Burn may be a good choice but check out the others.





Finally, you can always go to the Layers menu and import the original drawing with the line work as a new layer, then play with its opacity. Everything will be in place as long as you haven't resized the drawing or cropped it. One more thing you can try, is to move the line work from the bottom to the top of the layers hierarchy and change its opacity. There are a number of ways to solve this problem.





It is always wise to make a duplicate layer of your line work in the properties window as soon as you open the file. And duplicate any layer before you make drastic changes that make it difficult to get back to where you were before the changes. Layers can be turned off and on, so use that to your advantage. Well, I use photoshop CS3 Extended, but since there aren't any other answers, maybe I can tell you what works on photoshop and maybe it'll work on paint.net. Have you tried making the lines transparent? It doesn't matter if you use layers. If the lines aren't transparent, then the paint on any layer you put on them will cover the lines. If there isnt a transparency button, ask how you can make it transparent. Hope I helped in some way. ^.^

I have paint.net the free photo editing program and I was wondering if you can use it to edit pictures together like in photoshop. I wanted to edit myself next to a celeb or somthing but im not sure if i can do that well with this program because I can't get photoshop. When I put my pictures on any type of a dark background there is a whitish grey outline. If I bring the transparency in closer it makes the picture look very pixely and blocky. Try using feather plugin (checkmark the ';true feather'; option) on the layer with the picture to get rid of the outline

it would be similar to paint shop pro, where you create two or three layers, and for each layer you select area to be glitter, and use filter effect pixelate and add noise, then the same for each layer, then view animation and export as gif, if paint does not have this option, psp does have this included in animation shop and photoshop has image ready, if you don't have those try gimp or photobie

It is an image of a person but I want the outline to be striaght lines and can therefore not use the lasso tool. I want the image to appear jagged when placed on the new background. Check out the Help function for straight lines....I had a similar problem with another program that I spent ages blocking out individual pixels only to find it did this automatically. I Think on mine it was something as simple as holding down the shift or control key while moving to the next point.....was a real DOH! moment for me.

I am using paint.net. How do I do a black and white photo, but enhance the color of my eyes?

I do not want to to cut my eyes out and then just fill it in with a color. I want my eyes to still look real. I also want to be able to use this for other regular photos, but just enhance the color of certain things.I am using paint.net. How do I do a black and white photo, but enhance the color of my eyes?
It is called Selective (or partial) desaturation.





1. Duplicate your background layer.


2. Desaturate that layer (i.e. make it b%26amp;w).


3. Apply a layer mask to the layer. Use the black brush to paint on the layer mask (make sure that is where you are, not on the image itself). That will bring the color back to those areas. If you make a mistake, change the brush to white and go over it. Using a masking technique is best because you can keep adjusting it and fixing mistakes, which can't be done easily with the eraser.


4. When you're happy, flatten and save.





If you don't have any image editors, you can do it for free on www.picnik.com in their effects section.





Here is how to do it on picnik.com:





Upload a photo


Click on the ';Create'; tab


Click on ';Black and white';


In the ';Effect Painting'; box, choose ';Original';


Choose a brush size, then simply paint the color back in where you want it.


If you make a mistake, change it to ';Effect'; and go over the mistake.


Save the picture.

Use the magic wand to select the background then go to 'EDIT' then ';ERASE SELECTED'. When you copy it - don't just paste it, instead use the option to paste it into a new layer. Once you have it where you want it, you can go to 'LAYERS' - 'MERGE LAYER DOWN'

Try this -


Use the magic wand to select the image you want to keep. Go to 'EDIT' then 'Invert Selection'. It will then select everything except the image you want to keep. You can the select 'EDIT' - 'ERASE SELECTION'. Everything will be erased except the image you want to keep.

If the magic wand will not work for selecting the image you want to keep, the only other option I know of is to use the line tool to draw an odd colored line around the image you want to keep and then erase the line. Use size 3 or better for the line where possible. That will cut it away from the background enough for you to erase the rest of the background.
